Leigh appears in the Magistrates’, County and Supreme Court of Victoria in bail applications, contested hearings, pleas and as junior counsel in jury trials. He specialises in regulatory crime, with particular expertise in occupational health and safety matters arising from serious workplace incidents across all sectors including construction, manufacturing, mining, agricultural and healthcare.
Leigh is regularly briefed to advise on evidentiary issues and statutory interpretation, and has experience working with expert witnesses and complex technical material.
Before coming to the Bar, Leigh was a Lead Lawyer at WorkSafe Victoria, where he appeared in occupational health and safety proceedings and conducted merits review of inspector decisions. He was also a Principal Solicitor at the Victorian Government Solicitors Office, advising a range of government departments on occupational health and safety matters, and a Solicitor at the Office of Public Prosecutions in a general trial division.
In 2010, Leigh was Associate to her Honour Judge Hampel AM SC. He also worked in the community legal sector.
